Hi there, I’m Stuart, founder of Gut-Friendly Gardening. My journey into gut health and sustainable gardening started over a decade ago, driven by a deeply personal experience. After my partner faced injuries and health issues resulting from the Christchurch Earthquakes, I realized just how critical gut health is to overall well-being. This sparked a passion in me to explore how the food we grow directly impacts our gut and how sustainable gardening methods can improve not just our health, but also the health of the planet.

I’ve spent years experimenting with various composting methods and growing systems—from hydroponics to chaos gardens, and everything in between. Having worked in Canterbury as a mixed cropping and livestock farmer, I’ve always had a close relationship with the land. I even ran a business selling vegetable seedlings and instant veggie mats, helping people grow their own food at home. Along the way, I’ve also led research projects in composting and vermicomposting, continuously seeking ways to improve soil health and sustainability.

Now, with Gut-Friendly Gardening, my focus is on creating diverse planting systems that enhance soil health and, in turn, boost the microbiome of the food we eat. By fostering microclimates and using diverse plantings, we can work with nature to build stronger, healthier soils—and ultimately, healthier people.

Our Values:

Gut-Friendly Gardening isn’t just about growing plants, it’s about cultivating a healthier, more sustainable way of living. I invite you to join me on this journey.
